Hope and freedom
I agree, The Shawshank Redemption means hope to me also. I also associate the story with freedom. When Andy's freedom is (wrongly) taken from him, he doesn't give up. He finds his own freedom in the prison. He makes friends and finds tasks to remind him of the outside world, making him a free man in his own mind. A truely great movie.

For me, The Shawshank Redemption means hope. Andy's fight during his time inside the prison shows his eternal hope, and determination to never stop. During my life I have found myself in situations I do not want, and cannot easily change or resolve. I often watched and thought of the movie, which gave me the hope to continue to times when things had changed. I am now a very happy person, guiding my life to new directions everyday.
