Since seeing the Trainspotting movie I have read a few Irvine Welsh books. His short stories are good, as well as his full length novels. Filth is a great book, as is Porno, the sequel to Trainspotting, which I read recently. I then read Trainspotting, which is surprisingly different to the film. The film is really a small part of the book.
Irvine Welsh writes in a manner that takes a little getting used to. He doesn't follow normal play-like grammar. There is no separation between dialog and narration, so I often find myself re-reading a paragraph. Many of his characters are Scottish and speak with very strong accents and slang, which can be difficult to follow when reading.
